SOLD OUT!
Update December 27th Due to our recent rains, we have changed the route of the hike to avoid a wet creek crossing. The new route is basically the same without visiting the Ancient Redwood; instead we have added a new segment through the redwoods. Definitely a beautiful way to start the new year.
Do you want to start 2025 on the right foot with a gentler, shorter hike than our 12th Annual First Day Hike to the Summit? Then this is the hike for you, a moderate, slower paced and inspiring hike that is designed for individuals, families and friends who want to appreciate Mother Nature’s grandeur along the way.
It is a hike through the redwoods with mixed evergreens on your way to paying homage to the magnificent Ancient Redwood; a 3.5 mile roundtrip hike, with moderate elevation gain and some uneven rocky areas.
Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring hiking poles, if you have them, water and snacks.
With the 2025 Gentler First Day Hike you will also be participating in the national “First Day Hikes” movement sponsored by America’s State Parks, offering an opportunity to kick off your new year with a healthy start. The January 1, 2025 hike for health at Jack London State Historic Park is part of a collaborative national fitness event with California State Parks.
