Join us for a very special Jack London themed event!
We’ll meet in Sonoma at 12 pm (parking behind the Barracks in Sonoma) and hop on the “Jack London Party Bus” headed for Benicia where Jack London was an oyster pirate in his youth.
On board, we’ll toast with some whiskey and pour some wine as we are whisked away to Sailor Jack’s, Benicia’s Jack London-themed restaurant.
Along the way, docent, Kathy Hillback-Ely, will talk about Jack’s life as an oyster pirate.
At Sailor Jack’s we’ll sit on the water in their outdoor tent and enjoy lunch with a view of the waterway where Jack used to sail.
After lunch, we will take a 30-minute guided historical walk along the streets of Benicia with representatives from the Benicia Historical Society, visiting the waterfront and a bar that still remains intact where Jack hung out.
We’ll hop back on the bus and head to Oakland while docent, Jeff Falconer entertains us with stories from Jack’s early life in Oakland.
We’ll visit the famed Heinold’s: First and Last Chance Saloon where Jack was a regular back in the day and drink some Jack London-themed cocktails outside while answering some Jack London trivia questions for prizes.
A visit to Jack’s cabin that was brought in from Dawson, Alaska (half of which sits on the promenade walkway nearby) will be up next.
Finally, we’ll take some photos in front of the wolf statue and a group shot in front of the mural on the back of Heinold’s (which includes scenes from Jack’s incredible life and the Cottage at Beauty Ranch) to remember this special day.
More wine and whiskey will be poured on the way back to Sonoma. We’ll have a sing-along on the ride home, singing songs from back in the day, songs Jack may have sung during his lifetime.
