Step into the forest and discover a deeper connection with nature at the Redwood Experience in Jack London State Historic Park.

“There is a redwood tree waiting to meet you,” says California Naturalist Laura Wagner. This immersive journey is your invitation to find it.

This guided experience blends hiking, natural science, sensory exploration, and mindful reflection as you make your way to the park’s only ancient redwood, a 2,000-year-old giant tucked into the slopes of Sonoma Mountain. Along the way, you will pause for interactive moments that engage your senses such as touch, scent, sound, and sight, opening new ways to experience the forest around you.

The outing features a moderately paced 4 mile hike with approximately 620 feet of elevation gain. The experience concludes with a guided meditation beneath the redwoods and a quiet, reflective walk through the enchanting fairy ring forest.

What to bring: Water, layered clothing, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and optional hiking poles. Please also bring a bandana or eye mask for a guided sensory activity.

Come ready to engage, tune in, and experience the forest in a whole new way.
