Sold out! It’s summer and time to have fun and let loose. In August, the Jack London Piano Players will host an afternoon concert of Ragtime and Early Jazz to get your juices flowing! Heading up the concert will be Sonoma’s ragtime king, John Partridge who you know from previous ragtime concerts. John is a multifaceted composer who has written music for over 50 years in genres including ragtime, church music, musical theater, and opera. Joining John will be talented piano club members Louise Bettner, Debbie Knapp, Michael O’Brien, and Paula Szoka.
Everyone is invited to dress in period costume if you wish to get into the spirit of that rollicking time in the early-mid 1900s. Let’s get moving!
Charmian and Jack London would be tapping their toes as the concert will be played on Charmian London’s 1901 Steinway piano purchased on an installment plan. After receiving a hefty sum from his publisher, Jack gave Charmian $500 to finish payment and bring the piano to the ranch, where it became the center of entertainment for London’s many guests.
Boogie your way downstairs during intermission to enjoy refreshments outdoors under the portico and meet the performers.
Since 2011 the Piano Club has presented quarterly concerts, raising over $22,000 to benefit operations at the Park.
