Expand Your Creative Vision with Your Phone’s Camera
Join us at JLSP for an inspiring and hands-on exploration of your phone camera’s creative potential.
During the first half of the class, we’ll meet in the Museum to demonstrate camera settings, creative features, and practical techniques that will help you make the most of the camera you carry every day. Our demonstrations are designed not only to teach you how the camera works, but also to inspire your eye for composition, light, and storytelling.
After a short lunch break, we’ll shuttle to the Ranch, where you’ll have the opportunity to photograph a variety of subjects while practicing the techniques you’ve learned. As we explore the grounds, you’ll not only discover new photographic techniques and creative possibilities but also have the chance to experience and appreciate the remarkable beauty, history, and atmosphere of Jack London State Historic Park. It’s the perfect setting to experiment, ask questions, and develop both your technical skills and your creative vision.
Photographers of all experience levels are welcome, and any smartphone camera may be used. Demonstrations will be presented on a newer iPhone, but the concepts and techniques apply to virtually all modern smartphones.
Meet the Instructors
Susan and Neil of silvermansphotography.com, a husband and wife team have been “captured” with photography for over twenty-five years –(teaching, leading workshops and working professionally in many venues).. Not only do they lead their own photographic tours, but they have taught for the Santa Fe Photo Workshops, Gualala Art Center, Santa Rosa Junior College, Pacific Northwest Art School, Pt Reyes Field Institute, Great American Photography Workshop (GAPW), B&H Photo, PPC, PPWC, WPPI, Better Photo as well as many Photo Clubs and organizations. Sharing knowledge, experiences and camaraderie is as meaningful as “getting the shot”. Their work has appeared as the cover of Outdoor Photography, in Elle Magazine, der Spiegel, Sierra Club, the Cure, Audubon, Nikon World, Press Democrat, San Francisco Chronicle and many more.
The Silverman’s are living on the North Coast and they enjoy teaching no matter the level of experience or equipment—be it camera or smartphone camera.
As photographers they realize that the light reveals itself in meaningful ways— on the camera, as a visual awakening, as an awesome moment in time and as a kindling of spirit and soul.
What to Bring:
- A **fully charged smartphone** (+ charger, just in case)
- Pen & paper for notes
- Bring your lunch for a quick picnic
- Wear comfortable walking shoes (no hiking entailed)
- Dress in layers for the weather
