Historic Orchard Hike

Historic Orchard Hike

WHEN:

Sunday, March 15, 2026

WHERE:

Jack London State Historic Park
2400 London Ranch Road
Glen Ellen, CA 95442

Step into the changing season with a special guided hike to one of the park’s most inspiring restoration stories.

Join fellow nature and history enthusiasts for a memorable journey to the historic orchard as winter gives way to spring. Originally planted between 1908 and 1912, the orchard flourished in Jack London’s time before being abandoned for many years. Today, thanks to dedicated restoration efforts, it can once again be enjoyed by all who walk its trails.

The experience begins with an engaging overview presentation by Eric Metz, Director of Operations, who will share the history of the orchard and the challenges involved in its revival. From there, participants will hike through redwoods and mixed oak woodlands on a moderate, six-mile round-trip trek to the orchard.

At the orchard, guests will enjoy a guided tour highlighting the areas that have been thoughtfully revitalized and learn about the unique obstacles overcome to restore this landscape.  Along the way, keep an eye out for seasonal wildflowers and, with a bit of luck, the first delicate blossoms on early blooming fruit trees.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty of the land and connect with its history as the park transitions into spring.

For those joining the hike portion, please bring water, a snack, sturdy hiking shoes, and dress in weather appropriate layers.
