Jack London Park Partners is currently restoring Charmian London’s sleeping porch at the historic Cottage. This project will repair existing water damage and address ongoing stability and water damage issues, preventing future damage from occurring. The scope of this project was determined through assessment of the porch by building professionals along with State Parks architects, historians, curators and restoration specialists. All restoration work will follow the Secretary of Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Structures—the standard which must be met for all buildings with National Historic Landmark Status. The work will be performed by staff qualified to meet these standards. In addition, the building has undergone an engineering survey to determine stability during construction, and all construction will be monitored and inspected by State Parks historians and other appropriate staff to ensure the highest quality restoration.
