Want to kick off the new year with a beautiful, more relaxed hike instead of the full Summit challenge? This Gentler First Day Hike is perfect for you! Enjoy a moderate, slower-paced adventure designed for individuals, families, and friends who want to soak up the beauty of nature and start the year feeling refreshed and inspired.
Your journey will take you through peaceful redwood groves and mixed evergreens, leading to the awe-inspiring Ancient Redwood. This 3.5-mile roundtrip hike includes a moderate elevation gain and a few uneven, rocky sections, adding just enough challenge to keep things exciting.
Take your time, breathe in the forest air, and let the beauty of mother nature set the tone for an amazing 2026!
By joining this event, you’ll also be part of the national “First Day Hikes” movement—a program by America’s State Parks encouraging people across the country to start the year strong and healthy.
When: 11 am – 1:30 pm, Thursday, January 1, 2026
Where: Jack London State Historic Park, 2400 London Ranch Road, Glen Ellen, CA – Meet in the ranch parking lot on the right as you enter the park.
Admission: $15 (Park entrance fee not included)
What to Bring: Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, along with water, and a lunch or snack to enjoy at the Ancient Redwood.
