“The Pyrenees, her iron sides pressed low in the water by her cargo of wheat, rolled sluggishly, and made it easy for the man climbing aboard from a tiny outrigger canoe. As his eyes came level with the rail…”

And so The Seed of McCoy begins a two-fisted tale of adventure on the high seas.  The action takes place in French Polynesia visited by Jack and Charmian London during the Cruise of the Snark in 1907-1908.  Like other London stories, it is partly based on a true story. It was published in Century magazine in 1907 and 1911 as part of the “South Seas Tales”.

Join us as the incomparable, Jeff Falconer reads aloud The Seed of McCoy, Sunday morning, September 8th, outdoors, and under the majestic oaks for a special Jack London morning.

A discussion will follow the reading with refreshments.

More than 100 years later, the same area was visited by Nancy and Rob Novak, Sonoma County residents and real-life sailors who left on their cruise of a lifetime in 2012  that lasted 14 years! During that time, unknowingly, they visited the same area in French Polynesia and much more.  To continue the story and learn more about their adventures, see our upcoming event on September 28th The Story of the Snark and Cruise of the Shindig to purchase tickets
