Jack London's Lake Restoration

Over the last number of years Jack London’s Lake has become overgrown with cattails and willow, infested with a water fern that clogs the water surface and the historic dam has become weakened with age.  Jack London Park Partners has recently began efforts to maintain a clear viewing area and protect the dam and historic drain structure by cutting back cattails and willows and hand removing the tiny water fern.  Protocols developed by California State Parks environmental scientists are being followed to ensure the protection of amphibian and bird life in the area.

A larger restoration of the lake is in the planning stages and may include removing cattails, reshaping the lake bottom to encourage a better ecosystem and recreational environment and repair and restoration of the historic dam to allow water levels to rise.
