Calling all aspiring young authors!

Are you a natural storyteller? Can you paint a vivid picture with words and phrases? Share your talent and test your skills in Jack London State Historic Park’s 2ND ANNUAL YOUNG WRITERS CONTEST! This year’s contest will include two categories - Elementary School (4th and 5th grade) and Middle School (6th-8th grade). Judges will look for dynamic characters and exciting stories that develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective language and descriptive details.

Elementary School: Grade 4-5

  • Story Prompt - Discovery: Jack London was a very curious person who was always learning about new things and making discoveries of his own. Create a story about a character or group of characters who discover something the world has never seen or heard of before.

Middle School: Grade 6-8

  • Story Prompt – Adventure: Jack London loved to go on adventures and learn about different areas of the world and the people living there. Using narrative techniques, such as dialogue, description, and pacing, develop an exciting short story about a character or group of characters who embark on a great adventure.

Follow your sense of adventure and enter our contest!

The contest closes February 28, 2017!
