Jack London State Historic Park - Docent-Led School and Adult Groups

Jack London State Historic Park offers private docent-guided tours for schools and adult groups:

May 1 to October 31 - Mondays through  Fridays.

November 1 to April 30 -  Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

These tours require advance reservation at least 14 days before the desired date.

There are four different tours available:

• The Beauty Ranch tour includes the Museum and a guided walk of the Barns, the Winery Ruins, the Cottage and the Pig Palace. Because of the limited space in the Cottage, a tour of the interior can only be offered to groups of 40 or fewer visitors.

• The Adventurer tour includes the Museum and a half-mile walk to the Wolf House and the Grave Site. Group size is limited to 60 students and 20 adults.

• The Senior tour is designed for visitors with limited walking ability that arrive by bus. The docent-led group will visit the museum and then move by bus to the Beauty Ranch to visit the Cottage. For visitors who need assistance, we can provide rides on our golf cart. Be sure to request the golf cart in advance to assure the availability of a golf cart driver. The maximum group size is 40.

• The Self-Guided tour is designed for school groups that arrive with teachers able to lead an interpretive walk without a park-provided docent.

For all groups, we will schedule one docent for every 15 – 20 visitors. Shortage of docents may at times result in larger groups.

All tours are met in the “lower” parking lot near the Museum – turn left at the entrance.

Each tour is approximately 2 hours in duration. Our docents will meet groups rain or shine, unless you cancel. If you decide to cancel for any reason, call 707-938-5216 as soon as possible. All scheduled group tours are posted on-line. You may check the schedule to determine if your desired date is still open.

Only on-line requests are accepted and must be submitted at least 14 days before the desired date. You will receive an e-mail confirmation to inform you of the status of your request. By submitting a group reservation form, you are agreeing to the park rules outlined in the Group Leader's Guide. Reservations are not final until you submit payment and receive e-mail confirmation.

Video Tour of the Park.

Schools (K-12) may request the loan of a 20-minute DVD video which is an excellent preview of the park for the students. The video includes a brief biography of Jack London, many quotes, photographs and video clips. Each major feature of the park and its history is described. The video features subtitles for the hearing-impaired. The video may be requested on the Reservation Request form. We will mail the video to the school (allow 2 weeks for delivery). There is a $12 deposit which will be refunded when the video is returned at the park. The video is also available for purchase at the Park Store.
