First Day Gratitude Hike

Discover how great you will feel when you start the new year off on the right foot at the 2018 First Day Gratitude Hike. This year let's spend the day hiking to the summit of the park, while getting to know and having the opportunity to voice our appreciation to the Emergency Responders  who fought valiantly to save our lives and homes from the horrific 2017 Sonoma, Napa and Lake County Wildfires!

We invite all Emergency Responders, firefighters, police, first responders, doctors, nurses, PG&E personnel, national guard members, members of the media who kept us up to date, and others who helped us through this devastating time to join our hike and meet the faces in the community that you fought so hard to save. We also invite all members of California State Parks who, at great risk, removed and safely stowed the artifacts from the museum and cottage. Please bring your families for free admission to the park and the hike.

NEW We are thrilled to announce that Volunteer Battalion Chief, Rusty Sims, from the Glen Ellen Fire Department and a Jack London Park volunteer, will help lead the hike.

Choose between two great options:

Option1: 5th Annual Hike to the Summit of the Park and then back to the Jack London Park parking lot. This will be an 8 mile moderately strenuous guided hike. Be ready to have your picture taken at the top of the mountain while enjoying the views

Option 2: From the summit of the park continue on your guided hike over Sonoma Mountain into the beautiful new North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve, a moderately strenuous 10 mile hike to the North Sonoma Regional Park parking lot on Sonoma Mountain Road. NOTE: If you choose this option it will be important for you to make provisions to carpool, leaving one car at the North Sonoma Regional Park so you can shuttle yourself back to Jack London Park at the end of the hike. This is the third year that we have offered this collaborative hike between Jack London State Historic Park and Sonoma County Regional Parks! What an opportunity to hike in two beautiful parks on the first day of the year!

By participating in our First Day Hikes you will also participate in the national “First Day Hikes” movement sponsored by America’s State Parks, offering an opportunity to kick off your new year with a healthy start. The January 1, 2018 hike for health at Jack London State Historic Park is part of a collaborative national fitness event with California State Parks.

Our park is serious about offering you opportunities to get into shape while enjoying the beauty and exhilaration of the outdoors. Throughout the year we will be offering a series of hikes for all fitness levels that will make exercise easy when you are with a fun group of like-minded people and a knowledgeable leader. Be sure to sign up on our mailing list to receive future notices of upcoming hikes, classes and events.

The First Day hike is designed for all fitness levels with guides to help you return to the parking lot at any time. Simply stated it's designed to be fun and inspiring. Meet the folks that did so much to protect us during the fire!

Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, bring water, lunch, binoculars and hiking poles if you have them.
